With the first NASCAR race of 2011 at Daytona (and the surprising win of Trevor Bayne) let’s take a look at the Futures odds for this year’s Sprint Cup Winner, provided by Sportsbook.com. Will Jimmie Johnson win this year too? The top places in the odds list are as follows.

Kyle Busch +800 8/1

25 year old Kyle Busch is fourth in the odds to win the Sprint Cup. He finished 8th last year, but we could see him move up this year in the standings. He has a record of 19 Sprint Cup wins with 104 in the top ten.  His most dangerous rival could be himself thanks to his explosive character. He’s still a young driver with many lessons to be learned, but he definitely has the skills to become one of the best race car drivers around the block.

Denny Hamlin +600 6/1

Hamlin finished 2nd in 2010 after having somewhat of a difficult start due to an injury he suffered playing basketball. In 2011 he could win around 8 races (if he’s still lucky), very similar to 2010 with his injuries now healed. He’s third in the futures odds (together with Edwards). Hamlin will be strong in the Martinsville races, on April 3 and October 30.

Carl Edwards +600 6/1

Carl Edwards finished fourth in 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup. His only two wins came in late in November. If he keeps consistent in 2011 he might be a threat to Jimmie Johnson.  His new “family man” role might help him keep more focused this year. So keep an eye on Edwards, he might just make it this year.

Jimmie Johnson +350 7/2

Jimmie Johnson won his historic fifth Cup last year and pretty much could do so in 2011. The Hendrick Motorsports driver won 6 races in 2010 cashing in more than $5.5 million in prize money. Johnson won in 2010 despite having pit crew issues, leaving that behind this year could be even better for him. He has the help of one of the best mechanics in the circuit, Ron Malec. It’s our opinion that Jimmie Johnson will win the 2011 Sprint Cup, doing betting odds justice.
